Dapol 4D-009-006 Class 121 W55026 BR Blue Grey + ESU LokSound DCC Sound OO Gauge

Offered for sale is a Dapol 4D-009-006 Class 121 single-car diesel railcar, W55026, finished in the classic British Rail blue and grey livery with yellow ends. Often affectionately known as a "Bubble Car", the Class 121 makes an especially attractive model for anyone wanting to recreate branch, secondary or local passenger workings without requiring a full multiple-unit formation. This example has the considerable benefit of having been subsequently upgraded with an ESU LokSound 21-pin MTC sound decoder. Importantly, the sound decoder isn't of unknown origin. This is therefore a particularly nicely presented example combining Dapol's detailed Class 121 model with a documented ESU LokSound installation.

The Class 121 is in excellent pre-owned condition. The model presents extremely well and has been carefully inspected prior to listing.

It has also been tested for operation, sound and functions prior to sale. The model was originally supplied as Dapol reference 4D-009-006 and has subsequently been fitted with an ESU LokSound 21-pin MTC decoder. The British Rail Class 121 diesel multiple units were single-car railcars built for British Railways and became widely known among enthusiasts as Bubble Cars. Their single-car configuration made them particularly useful on lightly used branch and secondary passenger services where operating a larger multiple-unit formation would have been unnecessary. W55026 is represented here by Dapol in the familiar BR blue and grey colour scheme.

The combination of the Class 121 prototype, BR blue/grey livery and separately fitted ESU LokSound decoder makes this an especially interesting example of Dapol's popular Bubble Car. For me, one of the particularly reassuring aspects of this model is that the sound decoder has some provenance. Rather than simply being described as having an unidentified sound decoder fitted at some point in its life, the original Coastal DCC receipt from April 2024 accompanies the model, along with its 18-function sound sheet. It's a very appealing model in its own right, but the quality sound installation really adds another dimension to a single-car DMU such as this.
