Please make sure that you order the Loksound 5 21 pin MKL decoder from the list available, and you will receive a slightly different instruction sheet from that shown below (5 Sept 2020). Please be aware that the wires from the speaker supplied with Next18 decoder are not soldered to the board since many Farish locos have a speaker pre-fitted. If this is likely to be a problem the new 8 pin Micro uses the same board as the Next18, and it just requires the ribbon connector unplugging, which gives another option if the speaker is required. We are pleased to advise that our decoders (except Next18, PluX22 and XL) come with wiring pre-soldered for easier fixing of stay-alive / power pak components. To compliment these we are now offering the Train-O-Matic Smart Power Pack within your choice options.
Fitting instructions are included in the package. Wires need soldering and CVs need adjusting. If height is a limiting factor choose the SPP-N at circa 33 x 9.4 x 6.5 mm, (l x w x h), if length is the problem choose the SPP (normal) at circa 22 x 10 x 13.5.V5 6 and 8 pin Micro Decoders are no longer suitable for direct wiring due to a change in the harness design. If you wish to do this please order the V5 Micro with wire connections or 8 pin normal size decoder and cut the supplied plug off. PLEASE NOTE: We are now able to offer a decoder fitting service through a third party affiliate. Loksound V5 DCC Sound Decoder with Diesel Class 66 pre- loaded.

If your loco is "DCC Ready" or "DCC Fitted" then this should not be difficult to locate and the Loksound decoder can be plugged into the socket already there. If your loco does not have a DCC socket then you will have to either wire one in, or cut off the plug supplied and hardwire the decoder to the power inputs from the track. If anything goes wrong the downside is not too expensive!
Loksound 5 decoders have as standard a sugar cube speaker 15mm x 11mm plus a sound chamber kit. Please also note that if you are considering using your own speaker then Loksound 4 & 5 decoders require it to be rated at around 4 - 8 Ohms. If your spare speaker came from a Loksound 3.5 then more than likely it will be rated at 50 or more Ohms, and as such will not produce much sound! For a smaller loco we recommend a micro decoder.Should you want to receive the sound on any other ESU Loksound Decoder not listed in the sale options this can be arranged, but there may be a despatch delay whilst these are sourced. Note, some 66s beep 5 times and then start, ours doesnt as the 66 we recorded, beeped throughout the first stages of start-up. Once started, the engine will rev up to build air pressure before revving down to idle. If left in idle for periods of time, the engine will rev up to run the compressor and rev back down again. When you change direction, you will not be able to move off until the driver has signed into his desk and cancelled the aws.
This sound project has been created to enable it to be driven and will respond to how you drive it. Drive it gently, it will rev up accordingly.
Wind that power handle round, and the thrash will commence! Within this Class 66 project, an emergency brake has been incorporated.
